If you keep an eye on Chatham County high school sports, here's one to repeat. Seaforth beat West Henderson 5-1 on Sat., Oct. 31, at Burlington Tennis Center for its first 5A dual-team girls tennis title. Neither school had reached the final before, so a first-time champion was guaranteed.

Mackenzie Wray, Seaforth's No. 1 singles player, was named MVP after coming back from a 3-6 first set to win 6-4, then 10-8 in the tiebreak. The Hawks took Nos. 1 through 5, so doubles never happened.

  • Final: Seaforth 5, West Henderson 1
  • Seaforth's path: St. Pauls, Fike, Western Alamance, Orange and Croatan
  • 1A final, Oct. 30: NCSSM-Morganton 5, Chatham Charter 0
  • Individual state championships: Oct. 23-24
